Jet Washing

The general clean — everything hard and horizontal that has gone green over winter.

Paths, steps, garden walls, decking, fence panels, garage aprons and the strip down the side of the house nobody looks at until it is slippery. Different surfaces want different pressures, and the judgement is knowing which is which.

Decking and older brickwork get a lower pressure and a longer dwell. Concrete and stone take the full force. Getting that wrong is how people take the face off a soft brick, so we set the machine to the surface rather than the other way round.

When you need it

  • A path or steps that have gone green and slippery
  • Decking you no longer trust in bare feet
  • The strip down the side of the house nobody looks at
  • Garage aprons, bin stores and fence panels gone dull

How we do it

STEP 01
Identify the surface

Decking, soft brick, render, concrete and stone all have different limits. We set the machine to the surface rather than running one pressure across everything.

STEP 02
Protect what is nearby

Borders and planting next to the work get soaked down and covered where needed. Wet foliage takes far less from overspray than dry foliage.

STEP 03
Pre-treat heavy growth

Where algae is thick, a treatment first means the water does less of the work and the surface takes less punishment.

STEP 04
Wash with the fall

We work with the fall of the ground so silt runs away from the house and off the area, rather than being pushed under a door threshold.

STEP 05
Rinse down and sweep

Everything gets a clean-water rinse and the area is swept before we pack up.

Jet Washing questions

Can you jet wash decking without furring it up?

Yes, at a much lower pressure and with the lance moving along the grain. High pressure on softwood decking raises the fibres and leaves it rough — that is the usual reason decking looks worse after a wash rather than better.

Is it safe on old brickwork?

Handled carefully. Old, soft or lime-mortared brick will pit or lose its face under high pressure, so it gets low pressure and a longer dwell. If we think a wall should not be washed at all, we will say so.

Will you clean render?

Painted or textured render is soft washed rather than jetted. High pressure drives water into the substrate and can strip the finish.

Do you clean fence panels?

Yes, at low pressure. Be aware that washing a fence reveals how faded it already was — most people follow it with a treatment.

Can you do just a small path?

Yes, though very small jobs are usually best combined with something else on the same visit so you are not paying a call-out for twenty minutes of work.
